If you want to experience Japan in Australia or New Zealand, then you need to make time for Japanese events and festivals. A festival is known as Matsuri in Japan. Now that Japan is near or coming to you, be sure to attend the events to experience authentic Japanese experience. You’ll learn more about the Japanese culture, try Japanese food and drinks, meet new friends, and- of course- learn a few Japanese words.
Matsuri Japan Festival
The Matsuri Japan Festival is an annual event that seeks to celebrate the friendship between Japan and Australia since the abandonment of the White Australia Policy. This event is for everyone who loves Japan and usually takes place in December. This is an unmissable event where you get to relax in the beer gardens and down traditional Japanese drinks and sample a broad range of Japanese delicacies. Further, you’ll learn a lot about origami, calligraphy demonstrations, tea ceremony, and flower arrangements. The karate demonstrations, traditional Japanese dances and drums, and taiko performances will keep you entertained all day long.
Japan Festival
The Asia New Zealand Foundation and Wellington City Council play host to Japan Festival once every two years. Here, you get to interact with Japanese nationals in Oceania and experience the crafts, colours, and culture of Japan. The Japan Festival also includes tea ceremony, taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, and special performances from top acts, such as pianist Nagako Miya. The festival is always held in Wellington and aims to celebrate the good relationship between Wellington and Sakai (a city in Japan).
Other Japanese Events in Australia
You may also attend the more-than-special Japanese Summer Festival, which is an insight into endless discoveries about Japan. This matsuri celebrates formidable cultural links between Australia and Japan, and it’s also held in December. You may ask around or search online to find out more information about oriental art, cultural, and cooking events in or near your city.
